Down Royal Races Ahead with Redevelopment

Following the publication of a Strategic Marketing Group Report into Irish Racing, Down Royal Racecourse is striding ahead in addressing some of the recommended outcomes of the report, by investing a further £100,000 in its facilities.

A key element in the findings highlighted how central owners and trainers are to the sport. They are integral to the future of horse racing, and should be hosted at the racecourses.

Embracing the report and its findings, Down Royal has announced a £100,000 investment in upgrading its Owners and Trainers’ Bar at the course.
Mike Todd, General Manager of Down Royal explains: “We have a reputation for being a progressive racecourse in Ireland, and it was extremely important that we took on board the findings of the strategic marketing report and implemented the recommendations immediately.

“Our actions speak louder than words to the trainers and owners in the horseracing world and this investment should demonstrate just how much we value their contribution and importance to the industry.”

The new facility will welcome its first guests on the 4th & 5th November at the Northern Ireland Festival of Racing, one of the highlights in Down Royal’s racing and social calendar.

Jim Nicholson, who chaired the Horse Racing Ireland’s Strategic Marketing Group and is a Down Royal Board Member, adds:  “The Strategic Marketing Group Report was created to develop a plan to grow attendance at Irish race meetings. After months of work, in which all stakeholders were consulted, the report contained core recommendations which we fundamentally believe will cement the future of horseracing in Ireland.

The implementation of these is imperative and Down Royal is forging ahead, ensuring that the recommendations come to fruition.
“In particular, by choosing to support the owners and trainers with its investment, this will resonate within the horseracing world and encourage greater co-operation between all stakeholders.”
This latest investment by the Racecourse is in addition to Down Royal’s recently completed £4.5m redevelopment of the course’s facilities.
